Leonie Gleeson Marketing, Career Advice

Working in marketing, you’ve probably focused on building your company’s brand, doing a competitive analysis as well as looking at what the business can be doing to promote and enhance itself.

But what about you? What is YOUR brand and how do you promote yourself when making yourself appealing to your next potential employer?

Job hunting isn’t easy, it's time consuming and vital that you make the right decisions, you need to spend some time thinking about how you’re going to position yourself against everyone else in your field looking for a new role.

Have a think about ways in which you can market yourself effectively when looking for your next job.

1.   Your Personal Brand:

Differentiate yourself from your competitors. You’re the expert at this!  What makes a successful brand? Think about yourself and promote that vision and perception. Try to be authentic; building a personal brand lets you position yourself as a thought leader in your area of expertise and establishes you as a reliable source. If you don’t promote yourself, no one else will!

2.   Have a Social Presence

Your social presence is important as a marketer

  • What does your portfolio look like?

  • What professional blogs have you written?

  • What articles have you promoted?

  • How often do you share your thoughts on relevant news stories?

Figuring out which platforms work best for you and for your audience is key. You can then promote your personal brand through social media, a written blog, video series, regular podcasts, newsletters, or a combination of all of these

Review your LinkedIn profile and ask yourself if it stands out and will grab someone’s attention.  Start working on it – highlight work you’ve done and even get some testimonials or endorsements from people you've worked with over the years.

3.   Network with Fellow Marketers:
