As Covid19 continues to have a catastrophic effect on the tourism and hospitality industry, Fáilte Ireland is helping the industry navigate and survive this crisis through targeted business supports, key mentoring and tailored recovery plans.

As part of this work Fáilte Ireland is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Consumer Planning and Insights (CP&I) Manager to join its team on a fixed term basis.

The role will report to the Head of Consumer Planning and shall be based in Fáilte Ireland, 88-95 Amiens Street, Dublin 1. However, in line with current Government guidance, the successful candidate will commence in this role while working from home. Please note that outside of the emergency measures currently in place by the Government, Fáilte Ireland’s standard policy concerning work location is that it is based at its administrative offices and Tourist Information Centres.

Job Purpose

The objective of Consumer Planning & Insights is to help unlock the growth potential for tourism and support Fáilte Ireland in the development of the category by keeping the consumer at the heart of all decision making. This is underpinned by strong expertise and experience in market research and consumer insights.

The candidate will operate at a managerial level within a team that champions and drives world class understanding of consumer attitudes, motivations and trends that can be leveraged to grow tourism in Ireland.

In particular as Fáilte Ireland navigates the impact of the Covid pandemic this individual will be central to providing consumer insights and research on the product development side of the organisation.

Primary Objectives/Key Responsibilities
Strategic Thinking & Generating Insights

  • The ability to identify strategic and innovative insights from research and data

Project Management

  • Lead various research projects on consumer insights and market research for Fáilte Ireland
  • Develop clear project specifications to ensure that the scope of the project, timelines and budget are all clearly defined and appropriate to the issues at hand
  • Bring expertise to the role and to ensure the quality of the research at all levels
  • Ensure that data is accurate
  • Oversee the analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative research data
  • Work with secondary data and materials to build on insights and research requirements

Communicating Insights

  • Deliver insightful, relevant, and actionable research outputs either directly or working with external agency partners
  • Deliver impactful presentations to the organisation and industry, as well as engage in multiple research projects
  • Translate data into meaningful, digestible messages for a variety of audiences that help them to action the insights

Stakeholder Management

  • Build internal and external key stakeholder relationships in order to provide and communicate consumer insights
  • Tightly manage suppliers to ensure that they deliver on Fáilte Ireland’s research and insight standards

Resource Management

  • Set clear goals and KPI’s for team that are aligned to the operational plan and corporate objectives
  • Effective management of team resource and allocation of appropriate resource to projects and tasks
  • Manage all staff reporting to the position, support and motivate them to maximise their development potential
  • Manage cross functional resource to deliver agreed projects and KPI’s
  • Ensure that any procurement of work from a third party is implemented in line with Fáilte Ireland procurement policy
  • Skill development for the team

Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Consumer Planning & Insights Team by supporting different work projects, as required, from time to time.

Person Specification

Supporting the Head of Consumer Planning & Insights you will have strong Consumer Insight and market research skills as well as experience working cross functionally with other teams and stakeholders. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent relationship management of agencies and a range of external partners with an ability manage deadlines. You will also need an innovative ability to designing, analysing, and presenting insights and research projects.

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate will have the following essential skills and criteria:

  • Strong understanding of the research industry and suppliers, including global research suppliers
  • Flexible and quick to learn from and adapt to changing situations

In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insights and research industry with at least 2 being at a mid-managerial level. This experience must be in a consumer-driven organisation or at a research agency
  • Experience of managing and developing a team
  • Proven track record of developing relevant and actionable insights
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research

Essential Qualifications/Mandatory Training

  • A third level qualification (minimum Level 8 under the QQI Framework), in Social Sciences, Humanities, Marketing or in a related discipline is required
